22nd of May is the first big release of 2012 in my opinion. It’s the date that Grammy Award-winning singer John Mayer will release his new album, which is entitled Born and Raised. The first single off that album, Shadow Days will officially be released on the 6th, but it has already hit the Net. Have a listen here.

The album sees Mayer teaming up with Don Was on a production level. Was is famous for his work with Rolling Stones, B.B. King and Bonnie Raitt among others. Below is the track listing for Born and Raised.

  1. Queen of California
  2. The Age of Worry
  3. Shadow Days
  4. Speak for Me
  5. Something Like Olivia
  6. Born & Raised
  7. If I Ever Get Around To Living
  8. Love is a Verb
  9. Walt Grace’s Submarine Test, January 1967
  10. Whiskey, Whiskey, Whiskey
  11. A Face To Call Home
  12. Born & Raised (Reprise)

On the album Mayer has also enlisted the help of many other talented musicians, who will be hitting the road with him as part of his 18-date spring tour in support of the new album. That tour kicks on the 9th of April in Bloomington, IN. He then moves onto venues in Detroit, Providence, Buffalo, Memphis and Kansas City. Aren’t we South Africans but a special bunch. Watch and laugh first off, and then you’ll realise how true it is. We have our own language bru, yiislike. Watch it now-now, just now china! Cool hey.

It’s that time of the year again… where DJs move to different show times or stations or the hang up their headphones. We’ve heard that Anele is moving to 94.7 Highveld Stereo and that her bestie Grant Nash is leaving radio altogether. We’ve also heard that Bailey Schneider and Mark Pilgrim will be leaving the drive time show on Highveld. So that was last week’s news. Well this week’s news goes a little like this:

Roger Goode is leaving the Saturday night slot on 5FM. He’ll now be holding down Mondays to Fridays evenings on the station. Dr Goode is going to make you feel real Goode during the week. Nice. DJ Euphonik will be taking over the Saturday slot between 7-10pm.

What happens to the 9-12, 12-3pm slots as well as the weekend shows will be interesting. That will come soon no doubt.

The countdown to this year’s first big stadium concert it on! The legendary rockers, The Eagles will be heading to SA this April and this tour will mark their first time to the country in the band’s 40-year long career. Here is the official release on the band’s tour:

The Eagles will tour South Africa for the first time ever in the band’s 40-year history.  The band will perform on Wednesday, April 4 at Cape Town Stadium in Cape Town; Saturday, April 7 at the Superbowl in Sun City; and on Sunday, April 8 at the Soccer City Complex, FNB Stadium in Johannesburg. Here’s another one of my favourite artists. It’s John Mayer and while he might say some dumb or controversial things at times, the one thing you can’t fault him on is his ability to make great music. Listen to his new track called Shadow Days and it’s the first single off his forthcoming album, Born and Raised. Can’t wait for the full album. What do you think of the song?

Grammy winner Esperanza Spalding has the honours of singing A Wonderful World during the In Memorium tribute to those the industry lost in the past year. It was done very beautifully. The tribute ends off with a short interview of dame Elizabeth Taylor, who was one of the many stars we lost last year.
