Survivor South Africa: Maldives. Meet the contestants

Survivor South Africa: Maldives kicks off on Thursday night on M-Net. It will once again be hosted by Nico Panagio, who I rate as a presenter. He’s strong, understands the game and executes the role of Survivor host brilliantly. Now I’ve seen the promos on some of the contestants and they look like an interesting bunch. Here’s a closer look at the Celebs and the Plebs. Check it out.

Name: Roxy Burger
Age: 24
Occupation: TV Presenter/ Business owner
Claim to fame: Roxy was one of the faces of KTV for many years.
Can she win? Don’t underestimate Roxy, thinking that she is still the pretty sweet girl from KTV. She has grown up to be an ambitious young lady, with defined goals – and one of these is to make it all the way to the top.

Name: Tshepo Maseko
Age: 36
Occupation: Actor
Claim to fame: Tshepo is best known for his role as Parsons in the multiple award-winning daily soap, Isidingo.
Can he win? This fun-loving, jovial man is easily underestimated. Behind the charm and big smile is a determined – and very competitive – personality.

Name: Vanessa Haywood
Age: 33
Occupation: Actress, TV Presenter, Businesswoman
Claim to fame: This former Miss South Africa finalist and international model played leading lady Tania in the Oscar nominated international hit District 9.
Can she win? Vanessa is a well-balanced, likeable, sporty, outdoors woman with an extremely competitive nature.

Name: Bonnie Henna
Age: 31
Occupation: Actress
Claim to fame: Bonnie played in international films such as Clint Eastwood Oscar-winning film Invictus, Drum and Catch a Fire. She also starred
on television in series like Hillside, Soul City and Home Affairs and was discovered by an agent at a bus stop at the age of 13.

Can she win? Gorgeous Bonnie is creative and the nurturing type. She’s emotionally, mentally and spiritually strong and has a positive outlook on life. But will this good girl become a threat to the others?

Name: Carmel Fisher
Age: 29
Occupation: Actress/ Motivational Speaker
Claim to fame: Carmel made her feisty debut in Backstage and increased her soap following with Rhythm City and the kykNET daily Villa Rosa. This superhot actress was nominated in the Top 50 for the FHM 100 Sexiest Women & made the FHM Hot VIP list in 2009. But she also has a heart of gold and is the Founder and Managing Director of Celebrity Cherubs Charity.
Can she win? Smouldering Carmel might look like a girl’s girl who can’t live without her make-up and styling, but she is a strong, competitive lady who knows exactly what she wants.

Name: Hykie Berg
Age: 32
Occupation: Actor
Claim to fame: He won a Crystal Award – and many hearts – as Darius Basson in Egoli and is currently the handsome Dr Conrad Bester in Binnelanders.
Can he win: Hykie is a real Survivor fan and go-getter, but his enthusiasm might just become too much for the people around him.

Name: Jacques Terre’Blanche
Age: 28
Occupation: Musician
Claim to fame: Golden boy Jacques shot to fame when he came third in the second season of Idols. His single “Endlessly” was nominated for a SAMA award and local glossy magazines love featuring this hunky man.
Can he win? Everybody loves Jacques and it will be difficult to vote him off. He is also superfit and will be an asset to his tribe at challenges.

Age: Forever young
Occupation: Musician, actor, songwriter, music producer
Claim to fame: MXO’s musical brew of groovy and irresistible songs has brought him a huge following across the continent.
Can he win? MXO is a chameleon who can adapt to any situation. And, he can make fire without matches! What more do you want?

Name: Philicity Reeken
Age: 31
Occupation: Actress, Radio DJ
Claim to fame: She had M-Net audiences in stitches as the hysterical mother in The Coconuts.
Can she win? Philicity is bubbly, vivacious and superfunny – qualities that can make life on a tough island much more bearable. She’s definitely not a gym bunny, but Survivor is a game of strategy – and she’s been blessed with brains!

Name: Allison
Surname: de Chazal
Age: 53
From: Durban
Occupation: Mother
What you need to know:
This yummy mummy has five kids and a body twenty year olds would die for. Being a mom to five kids, she doesn’t get frazzled easily and people naturally gravitate towards this caring, understanding woman.

Name: Harry
Surname: Wiggins
Age: 27
From: Worcester
Occupation: Maths Lecturer
What you need to know:
Harry is the ultimate Survivor fan and probably the brainiest contestant the show has ever seen. He is a maths whizz, boasts a Masters Degree in a complicated mathematical field and is a Maths Lecturer at UCT. He might look like a geek, but be careful, Harry is a master strategiser!

Age: 27
From: Kimberley/Johannesburg
Occupation: Professional rugby player
What you need to know:
Lukhanyo played rugby for several teams, including the Springbok Sevens, the Cheetahs, the Bulls, Lions and the Griquas. This gentle giant with the lovely smile will be a powerhorse at the challenges.

Surname: Moshoeu
Age: 26
From: Johannesburg
Occupation: Biokineticist
What you need to know:
Letshego is a fitness freak and is involved in a charity initiative where she will raise funds for kids by swimming, running and cycling 4000 km in 7 months. Don’t underestimate her small size and frame!

Age: 30
From: Durban
Occupation: Business development consultant
What you need to know:
Malusi grew up in Ulundi, but looks are deceiving with this induna. He is a rural guy with city sophistication and is very task-oriented.

Occupation: Lawyer and employed as Employees Relations Manager at Parliament
What you need to know:
Sean is a natural leader who has worked his way out of the Cape Flats to being a lawyer in Parliament. Behind that permanent frown on his face, lies a well worked out Survivor plan.

Occupation: Events co-ordinator
What you need to know:
Busybody Sindi went to great lengths to be on the show – at the auditions in Johannesburg she skipped the queues by pretending to be part of the selection crew!

Age: 25
From: Durban
Occupation: Make-up artist
What you need to know:
Tasleem is an unconventional Muslim woman. She is a real girls’ girl, but has done some provincial swimming too.

Name: Tejan
Surname: Pillay
Age: 32
From: Durban
Occupation: Engineer
What you need to know:
This engineer is also a cage fighter who loves pushing his mind and body beyond the limit. Analysing everything is the name of his game.

Surname: Coetzer
Age: 40

Occupation: HR consultant
What you need to know:
Simon has excelled in the corporate jungle and runs his own business. Being an HR manager he also understands human behaviour and social dynamics extremely well.
