The annual People’s Choice Awards took place at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angelas last night. The show was hosted by Kaley Cuoco and there were performances from the likes of Faith Hill and Demi Lovato. While the host scored rave reviews and the performances are always fun to watch, it’s the winners that most people were concerned with (considering they were voted for by the fans). My thoughts on the winners:
Nina Dobrev from Vampire Diaries is a really strong actress. Beautiful too. I remember seeing a picture of her at one event last year, rocking an amazing red dress. Yowza. Back to the point, she’s really good and I think the fans got this one right. The same goes for the Hot in Cleveland and Morgan Freeman. I really believed that Hot in Cleveland was one of those shows that is heavily underrated and that not many people watch it. In South Africa, I haven’t heard a lot of people chatting about the show and I blame its time slot. It’s on at 18:30 on a Friday night, but thanks to OnDemand on DStv, I always manage to catch the show. It has a great cast, it’s fun, light and really enjoyable.
If you know me, then you will know that I have had the priviledge of meeting and interviewing Morgan Freeman. This still is one of my career highlights. He’s not only wise, but extremely talented too. America, you got this one so so right. Neil Patrick Harris is a legend too, I’m not a massive fan of How I Met Your Mother and I don’t follow him too closely, but he’s good and so well done to him for his win. The one that I’m pleasantly surprised about? Maroon 5. Don’t get me wrong, the band is awesome but barring one single (Moves Like Jagger) I didn’t really expect them to be the bigger than Coldplay? Just me.
I know after Kim Kardashian’s exceptionally fast marriage and subsequent divorce, many signed a petition to end the Kardashian empire on TV, but you can’t argue with what people like and want and they clearly love Kim. I do too, no shame in admitting that for me. Well done to another one of Ryan Seacrest’s projects, American Idol for winning an award too. Another big up has to go out to Katy Perry, who decided not to attend the awards following her imminent divorce with Russell Brand. Despite all of the negative the star has had to endure in the first two weeks of January, she scooped a whopping five awards last night. Big up Ms Perry. We love ya.
What do you think of some of the others winners?
