Jason Von Berg is a talented digital content producer, possessing a passion for music, entertainment, and lifestyle, and a deep knowledge of these industries at local and international level.
Born and bred in Johannesburg, Jason matriculated from King Edward VII School (KES) and went on to study Journalism at Rhodes University, where he cut his teeth on air at the campus radio station, Rhodes Music Radio (RMR). Over his four years at the station he hosted popular shows including That Radio Show (TRS), the SA Top 20 and the JB Show, and produced the station’s flagship show, ABSA RMR Top 40.
After obtaining his Bachelor of Journalism Degree, specialising in TV; Jason took a breather from the ‘big bad world’ and reveled in the fun of working at a ski resort in Aspen, Colorado. Not wasting any time upon his return to South Africa, he took up the post of multimedia producer at the then-startup, The Times/ Times LIVE. This gave him the opportunity to engage with a large, mainstream audience and gain invaluable experience covering a range of entertainment, music and lifestyle content. His knack for hosting compelling interviews combined with his laid-back and likeable presence on camera grew him a significant online following.
Jason can often be found mingling with the who’s who at exclusive local music and entertainment events, but he has also covered several high-profile international events such as the MTV Europe Music Awards in Germany, the MTV African Music Awards in Nigeria, and The Hangover Part II European Premiere.
Jason has also hosted his own online show, The Von Vodcast, on which he interviewed a range of local celebrities and international greats including the likes of Annie Lennox, Morgan Freeman, Kevin Spacey, Flo Rida, Keri Hilson, John Legend, Lira, DJ Fresh, Craig David, Liam Gallagher, Bradley Cooper, David Guetta, and Kelly Clarkson.
Having made a name for himself in the online world through his social media and digital prowess, Jason’s plans for the future involve continuing to explore, grow and pioneer online production in South Africa and the rest of Africa. He is also looking to get back hosting a feature similar to the Von Vodcast and is thinking about exploring the American music and entertainment industry for a few years.
While he’s not tweeting and blogging about the latest entertainment news, Jason spends time outdoors with friends and family, and when possible dabbles in a bit of swimming and running – and even takes part in the odd triathlon.
