2011 Oscars- Tom Hooper wins Best Director

Hilary Swank welcomes on stage Kathryn Bigalow, who then announces the winner of the Best Director category. The winner for the Oscar in Achievement in Directing Tom Hooper wins for The King’s Speech.

“Wow. Thank you to all the members of the Academy. I’d like to congratulate my fellow nominees. Thank you to my wonderful actors. The triangle of man love, which is Colin, Geoffrey and me. 2011 Oscars- Celine Dion performs the tribute song

Celine Dion performs the track Smile written by Charlie Chaplin, as part of the annual tribute to the filmmakers, actors and actresses who have passed in the last year. This part of the Oscars always fascinates me because you don’t realise how many passed on in the year, and how their significant contribution to the industry will always be treasured, Halle Berry then pays tribute to Lena Horne.

2011 Oscars – Randy Newman wins Best Original song

AR Rahman, Florence Welsch and Gwyneth Paltrow perform the last two tracks nominated in the Best Song categories. The first one is “If I Rise” is from the film “127 Hours,” Music by A.R. Rahman. Lyric by Dido and Rollo Armstrong.

The second track is called “Coming Home” from “Country Strong,” Music and Lyric by Tom Douglas, Troy Verges and Hillary Lindsey. Nice Gwyneth!

Jennifer Hudson then presents the award for Best Original song to Randy Newman for “We Belong Together” from “Toy Story 3,”

“I’m very grateful and surprised. My odds aren’t great. I’ve been nominated twenty times, and won twice.”

2011 Oscars- Billy, Bob, Jude and Robert

Former Oscar host (eight times) Billy Crystal gets a standing ovation.

“Where was I? Something’s never change. The producers have told me to tell you we’re running a little long. So here are the nominees for Best Picture.” He had the duties of introducing a tribute to Bob Hope, who hosted the first televised Oscars back in 1953.

Robert Downey Jnr. and Jude Law then came on stage to present the Best Visual Effects to Paul Franklin, Chris Corbould, Andrew Lockley and Peter Bebb for “Inception”.
