Back in 2011 many Chevelle fans were left with nothing but disappointment as the band were forced to postpone their gigs at Oppikoppi. They assured fans that they would tour the country and they’re delivering on that promise now. The band announced yesterday that they will be heading out to SA next month for a series of gigs. Check out the press release for all the details:
Hilltop Live presents, the Platinum-selling alternative act Chevelle Live in SA in association with Monster Energy and Sounds Good. This is awful news to wake up to. Apparently an adverting billboard collapsed at the Cape Town leg of the Linkin Park tour to SA. The incident injured several and unfortunately one fan died as a result of her injuries
Below are statements from both Linkin Park and Big Concerts:
“Following a performance tonight at Cape Town Stadium, we were advised that several people were injured as a result of the collapse of an advertising tower erected by Lucozade in the parking area outside the venue.
We wish to express our deep sadness and concern for those injured and our heartfelt condolences to the family of the fan who died as a result of her injuries.
Though we have had no relationship with the sponsor or the entity responsible for erecting the structure, we take the safety of our fans very seriously and our thoughts are with all of those who were affected by this tragedy. ” Linkin Park.
“Following the regrettable incident at Cape Town Stadium this evening, Big Concerts would like to express our deepest sympathies and condolences to the injured persons and in particular the family of the fan who tragically passed away from injuries sustained when an advertising tower collapsed outside the stadium from gusting gale force winds. We would like to thank the City of Cape Town, the South African Police Services, and all the medics, doctors, and disaster risk personnel for their swift and professional response to this accident.”
The news everyone knew already has just been made official… The Red Hot Chili Peppers are coming to South Africa. The band will rock out in SA next February. How rad is this? Die Antwoord will be opening for the Peppers. That’s Zef bra, totes… haha. Dates as follows:
Johannesburg – presented by 5FM and M-Net
2nd February 2013
The Soccer City, Complex, FNB Stadium
Tickets from R315 – R715
Cape Town – presented by 5FM and M-Net
5th February 2013
A few weeks ago drummer Chad Smith kind of confirmed the news via Twitter, but obviously to keep the hype and speculation going, the organisers held of a bit. Now it’s official. Tickets go on sale on Wednesday at 9am for Jozi residents. Cape Town it’s your chance on Thursday. So be sure to get your tickets for yet another Big Concerts Experience.
Sorry for the typo Jubber. Sorted now
Look who’s coming to South Africa… It has been a long time coming, but finally rockers Linkin Park will grace us with their presence. The band will be heading down to South Africa this November to perform two stadium concerts. They’ll be rocking out on the 7th of November in the Mother City, followed by a performance in the Jozi on the 10th. Just looking at the ticket prices, which you will see below, they’re really reasonably priced and that is always a good thing.
There has been a lot of speculation about them, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and the Foo Fighters. So far the speculation is right, in negotiations and not sure in that order. One thing’s for sure though, if the end of this year/ beginning of next year is anything to go by, best you start saving you cash because it’s going to be all kinds of awesome!
Full press release for the Linkin Park Tour is below:

CONVERSE PRESENTS: GET OUT OF THE GARAGE!
If you’re a music fan, you might’ve heard of The 100 Club in London. It has been around since 1942 and has played host to some of the world’s most interesting musical acts including the late Amy Winehouse, Sir Paul McCartney and many many more. Last year it faced closure due to high rentals and other contributing factors. Converse stepped in to help and thankfully it is still around.
So how does this affect you? Well if you’re an aspiring and unsigned musician they’re giving you a chance of a lifetime. You can win an all expenses paid trip to perform at the institution. All you need to do is upload your original song and your biography to the facebook group: facebook.com/converse. Judges Jon Savage (5FM), Zulu Boy and Garick Williams will narrow down the entries to ten. Those ten will then be showcased on the group and whoever gets the most votes wins. Simple.
Sounds lekker and this gives you an opportunity to showcase your talents too, so be sure to visit the group www.facebook.com/converse, follow them on Twitter @Converse_Africa or use the hashtag #Play100Club. Entries close on the 8th of July and the winner will be announced in August. Ts&Cs apply.
Rockers Greenday are currently in studio. They’re hard at work with not just one album, but three. What will they be called? Well how about ¡UNO!, ¡DOS!, AND ¡TRÉ! The albums are set for release on Monday, September 24th; Monday, November 12th 2012 and Monday, January 14th 2013 respectively. On being asked about what to expect from the trilogy the band members said, “We are at the most prolific and creative time in our lives. This is the best music we’ve ever written, and the songs just keep coming. Instead of making one album, we are making a three album trilogy. Every
song has the power and energy that represents Green Day on all emotional levels. We just can’t help ourselves… We are going epic as fuck!” Love it! Check out the trailer for ¡UNO!, above.
The legend that is Sting is back in South Africa. The star kicked off his Back To Bass tour at the Coca Cola Dome in Johannesburg at the weekend. The charming 61-year-old shared stories from his long an illustrious career and let me tell you the sound at the Dome (or something out of District 9 as he referred to it) was fantastic. I’m off to see him in Cape Town this Wednesday, which I really stoked about, but for now, here are some photos from the old BlackBerry.

Here’s another one of my favourite artists. It’s John Mayer and while he might say some dumb or controversial things at times, the one thing you can’t fault him on is his ability to make great music. Listen to his new track called Shadow Days and it’s the first single off his forthcoming album, Born and Raised. Can’t wait for the full album. What do you think of the song?
