Cheryl Cole has been quiet for quite some time, but that’s all about to change. The star is back with a brand new song called Call My Name. After a very succesful run on the charts with her albums 3 Words and Messy Little Raindrops in 2009 and 2010 respectively, the star took a bit of a break from music (so to speak). She was part of Simon Cowell’s X-Factor judging panel in the US for all of like three episodes and then she suddenly left not only the American version, but the franchise entirely. She also went through a lot in her personal life, but that seems to be a thing of the past as the star is all set to unleash her new material on the globe!

This is the first single off her forthcoming album, due out in June. The video was released 19 hours ago but if you haven’t seen it yet, you can do so above. The song is bound to get loads of airplay on radio and in the clubs. The video was shot in downtown Los Angelas and it sees the getting back to her dancing ways. The choreography is great and guys, you’ll agree with me when I say Cheryl is looking Well Fit!

Her new album is called A Million Lights. It is expected to be released on the 18th of June. As soon as there are more details available on the album, I’ll bring them to you. I’m sure Will.i.am will appear on a few of the songs and if memory serves me correctly, Cole mentioned a possible collaboration with Rihanna. Gosh, imagine that. Throw Will in there and a little bit of David Guetta and the clubs would be exploding with excitement… That is of course all speculation. Let’s what and see.

If you had to pin Harry Potter against Twilight, I’d give Twilight the advantage. It would be a tough battle, but sadly the vampires would come out victorious thanks to Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. Now put Twilight up against an original, dark, but very enthralling film called The Hunger Games… The victor would no doubt be the latter, with Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss Everdeen) and the rest of her cast mates… Well if MTV is anything to go by. The film scored a whopping eight nominations – and rightfully so. Nice. Check out the full list of nominees below:

Marvel’s The Avengers is officially the number one film in South Africa. The movie was released on Thursday last week, a week ahead of the American release. The movie raked in a massive R15 203 072 since its release. If you haven’t seen the movie, I’d suggest you go and check it out. It’s big, real big… and in 3D.

I’m not usually a fan of movies like this but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Seeing and dealing with egos is something I deal with on a daily basis, so imagine having to deal with the egos of all these superheroes, ha. Well Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Samuel L. Jackson) knows how that feels, as he brings together the super humans.  From Thor (Chris Hemsworth) to Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.); the Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) to Captain America (Chris Evans) and The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), they’re all there in all their glory fighting together (eventually) to help save the Earth from Loki and his army.

The Hulk is my best and Iron Man are my best. Downey Jr. is just such a great actor and he embodies this role perfectly. Mark Ruffalo plays the role of The Hulk extremely well. In fact, dare I say it, but I was a little surprised by his performance. He’s good but I’ve never been totally convinced, until now. Check out the trailer below:

Now a lot of you might be asking yourselves this question, why did we get to see The Avengers before the Americans? I went through to a Disney content showcase last week and I asked that question. The reason? While previously we would’ve followed the US trend and release, it’s now become more focused on what is right for that specific market. With it being a (very) long weekend in SA, it made sense to release the film to The Avengers fans and those eager to see the film. It clearly shows that the studio reps in this territory are really in touch with the local market with the film debuting at number one and bringing in some big cash too. Nice one. The annual South African Music Awards took place at the Sun City Super Bowl on Monday evening. As to be expected the lovely Zahara stole the show, scooping at least eight trophies at the coveted music awards. Big up to her and big up to Randall Abrahams and his team for an incredible event. What a huge success. The yellow carpet is something that us working media need to work on. There is such a thing as etiquette and we still haven’t figured that out, but all in due course I guess. Alas, here are a few pictures from the yellow carpet. Above is the beautiful and incredible Bonang Matheba, wearing Gert-Johan Coetzee.

Vuzu‘s Lalla wearing David Tlale.

Top Billing’s Lorna Maseko in Thula Sindi.

Dancer and singer Somizi Mhlongo in David Tlale and shoes by Alexander McQueen.

Thembi Seete and her fiance looking good.

One of my absolute best, it’s the lovely Lira.

5FM’s Poppy Ntshongwana in Loin Cloth & Ashes.

The beautiful Boity.

Headline Mzansi presenter, Kuli Roberts.

Miss South Africa Melinda Bam looking gorgeous in yellow. She told me yellow is her colour… true story, she won the title of Miss SA in a yellow dress. Lovely Melinda.
