Adele to perform at the Oscars

Last year Adele cleaned up at the Grammys for her album 21. It’s an amazing album and so well deserving off all the success it has enjoyed. So last weekend Adele added another little statue to her collection, that being a Golden Globe for her song Skyfall. This was her first appearance on the red carpet and awards show since the birth of her son (Angelo seems to be his name). I recall her saying she was just out on a girls night and not expecting to win an award. It was yet another great moment for the star who remarked, “Thank you so much for letting me be apart of your night”.

Well the song has been nominated for an Academy Award® too. She’s clearly the favourite to win in the Original Song category come the 24th of February. It gets better. In celebration of fifty years of Bond and the franchise, it has just been announced by the Academy that she will be performing at this year’s awards. This will be her first television performance since last year’s Grammys®.

On the news, the star said “It’s an honour to be nominated and terrifyingly wonderful to be singing in front of people who have captured my imagination over and over again,” said Adele. “It’s something I’ve never experienced and probably only ever will once!”

The producers for the 85th Academy Awards® said,”We have enormous respect for Adele’s unique artistry as a songwriter and a singer,” said Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. “She is currently one of the most successful recording artists in the world, and we believe that her performance of ‘Skyfall’ will be an exciting Oscar moment for audiences watching at the Dolby Theatre™ and on television screens around the world.”

The awards take place on the 24th of February. I’ll sadly be on this side of the globe again, so I’ll be up blogging and tweeting through the night. More on the Oscars to come soon.

Listen to Adele: Skyfall

The countdown to the new James Bond film is on… and one way to get us excited for the film’s release is by listening to Skyfall’s official theme song. It’s by the lovely Adele. Listen to it above. On being enlisted to do the song, Adele says,  “I was a little hesitant at first to be involved with the theme song for Skyfall. There’s a lot of instant spotlight and pressure when it comes to a Bond song.  But I fell in love with the script and Paul had some great ideas for the track and it ended up being a bit of a no brainer to do it in the end. It was also a lot of fun writing to a brief, something I’ve never done, which made it exciting. When we recorded the strings it was one of the proudest moments of my life. I’ll be back combing my hair when I’m 60 telling people I was a Bond girl back in the day I’m sure!”

I love it, love it, love it. She has the perfect voice for this. Oozes class, power and elegance. Dig it. What do you think?

Grammys 2012 – Adele cleans up with Album of the Year

Lifetime Achievement recipient Diana Ross presented the award for Album of the Year to Adele. Her album 21 has sold in excess of six million copies worldwide and deservedly so. The album is incredible and so if you don’t have it, go and get a copy. Right now… go on. Here’s what she had to say:

“Aah. Thank you so much. First of all, girl did good. Mom I love you. I’m sorry you’re not here. I also want to thank Rick Reuben for teaching me about quality control and really put me and taught me about what I really wanted to be. He made me realise stuff I didn’t ever think I would. This record is inspired by something by something really normal and everyone has been through it… just a rubbish relationship. And it’s gone on to do things that I can’t tell you I ever thought it would. It’s been the most life changing year. I want to thank my record companies Columbia and Excel Records Nick Hugger who signed me and all my band. My crew, my family, my manager Jonathan, my mum… and all you lot. Thank you so much.”

Grammys 2012 – Adele performs

Gwyneth Paltrow introduces the performance everyone has been waiting for. That being Adele.

Adele and the voice are back and let’s just say this. Her voice is something else. Rolling in the Deep bellowing out of the Staples Center across the globe with everyone singing along. The video above isn’t the greatest quality, but it will give you an idea of what the performance was like.

Grammys 2012- red carpet

The 54th Annual Grammy Awards are here. Finally. It’s going to be a bittersweet evening tonight, but here are a few highlights from the red carpet.

Big hair seems to be the order of the day. Corinne Bailey Rae, Kelly Rowland are showing that tonight. As is Diana Ross. Bruno is wearing Tom Brown.

Kelly Price spoke about chatting and singing with Whitney Houston, whom she sang with on Thursday evening. She said it was an honour and that she didn’t expect her to get up and sing, but Whitney insisted. When Ryan asked her what Whitney would’ve wanted tonight, she said, “She would want it to be celebratory and about the music. She loved what she did.”

Sasha Gradiva is looking very bizarre. She’s got some pink number on, which isn’t bad but the the ‘jewelery’ is the gun

Maroon 5′s Adam Levin talks about Whitney Houston, “She’s just Whitney freaken Houston. We’re all upset”. He also told Ryan Seacrest that he was excited to take to the stage with the likes of the Beach Boys and Foster the People.

Juilianne Hough tells Giuliana that her boyfriend Ryan Seacrest helped her picked out her outfit. Aah cute. They have a dual screen going up and they’re just cut to Ryan.

Fergie’s “more conservative” dress is very bright. She is rocking an orange number with black lingerie ;) She was nominated and subsequently won for her role.

Jessie J says “it’s very surreal but I’m excited to be here. I’m excited to see Adele and represent the Brits”. She also said she was sad about the passing of Whitney Houston. “Her daughter was at the rehearsals and I got to meet her. I feel very honoured to be alive with her music”.

Katy Price has taken on a smurf look. Sans the blue hair, the rest of her looks good. Hopefully she’s on the road to becoming a happy smurf again.

Nicki Minaj arrived with her Bishop tonight. Sound weird? Well when a picture surfaces I will post it because clearly he’s her date for the night. She’s looking like Red Riding Hood. The makeup is very simple but she looks good.

Malin Ackerman is here too. Her dress doesn’t do much for me. I’m sure Joan Rivers will tackle this in more detail. Watch out for this.

John Legend is chatting to Ryan Seacrest. He gushed to Ryan about being newly engaged. His wife-to-be is beautiful.

Alicia Keys looks amazing tonight. The hair, the makeup, the dress. She just looks gorgeous.

Rihanna looks beautiful. Very very very good. Yowza! Winner! She’s in Armani.

Flo Rida on hearing about Whitney Houston’s death: “I was about to go on stage. I definitely spoke to the fans. She inspired me and my condolences go out to her”. He told Ryan Seacrest that there is some good things coming.
