Pics: Ultimate Redd Door Experience party

Here’s a party I’m bummed I missed. On the 8th  the who’s who (barring me haha) headed through to the Maboneng Precinct in downtown Jozi for the Ultimate Redd Door Experience. Apparently guests were ushered in through a series of revolving ‘Redd Doors’, teasing their curiosity by giving them a “sensory experience”. They got to see different performers, animations and there was an art gallery come tasting room behind one of the other doors too. Sounds like quite the party. Behind the final ‘Redd Door’ were some of SA’s biggest named including Kwesta, House Hold Funk, DJ Zinhle as well as Naves and Sphe.

You can win some really cool prizes courtesy of the people at Redd’s. Check out their online properties for more details.

Olmeca Tequila and Steve Aoki Launch electronic music talent

Do you have aspirations of becoming a superstar DJ? Want to play alongside stars like Fresh, Guetta, Euphonik, Avicci and Steve Aoki? Well here’s your chance. Olmeca Tequila and Aoki have teamed up to find 10 talented up and coming stars. They’ve launched the BE THE DJ School, in which if you’re selected as one of the ten winners, you’ll get a masterclass lesson by the American DJ.

All you need to do is download an exclusive edit of Aoki’s new track, “Come with Me” and give it your unique touch. It has been available on the Facebook app for quite some time now, but you’ve still got until the 26th to get involved. Once the ten are selected by Aoki, they will jet off to Rotterdam in February for the masterclass, which includes mentoring and one-on-one coaching.

It gets even better. The person who shows the most promise and potential will be invited to be a resident in one of Ibiza’s clubs for the summer of 2013. Olmeca Brand Manager is Renzo Puccini says, “We are proud to invest in the next generation of electronic music coming out of South Africa. There is so much talent here and an international, well-supported initiative like this will definitely result in big opportunities for the ten DJ hopefuls. Every DJ dreams of playing in Ibiza, and this is the ultimate prize for the winner.”
Aoki says: “The Olmeca BE THE DJ School is an incredible opportunity for new DJs – I’m excited to see what raw, new talent is out there and can’t wait to see one of these guys launch their DJ career in the dance capital of the world next summer. I started making music when I was in college, so I’m really excited to have the opportunity to help young DJs pursue their dance music dreams with Olmeca Tequila.”
Cool huh? So if you have what it takes search for the BE THE DJ Facebook app and get on that ish. You could be attending a press conference in Cape Town as part of Aoki’s tour to SA in December.

Anele heading back to 94.7 Highveld Stereo

One of SA’s most loved stars, Anele Mdoda or simply just Anele, is making a move… The 5FM DJ will be leaving the station at the end of March. She’ll be returning to regional station, 94.7 Highveld Stereo as of the beginning of April. The DJ, who kicked off her radio career at Tuks FM during her varsity days, used to host the evening show on the 94.7 with her good friend, Grant Nash a few years ago. The duo then moved to 5FM, where they’ve hosted the 12-3 show ever since.

94.7 made the news official via their Twitter stream earlier saying: “@Anele is coming back to @947Highveld to rev up Afternoon Drive!!! #greatnews

Anele will be hosting the drive time show, which means the current host Mark Pilgrim will be moving on, as will the awesome Bailey Schneider. No word on what their plans are, or what 5FM and Anele’s co-host Grant will do as yet, but the radio shuffle continues…As soon as I have official word, I’ll post it up here. For now, a big congrats to Anele for this achievement, it’s a big deal and I feel she will rise to the challenge.

Note to self, time to get that demo done and polished… again!

Celebrating Sasha Martenengo’s 5000th show

Easily one of South Africa’s top radio personalities has to be Sasha Martinengo. The 5FM will today celebrate his 5000th show on radio- DAMN! What an achievement. I’ve been listening to him for probably more than half of those shows. I guess you can say I’ve grown up with Sasha, so congratulations to him and thank you for being such a ripper DJ on 5FM.

On reaching this milestone the DJ says, “I’ve been in radio for 17 years. This is something I’m very proud of and it’s still something I look forward to every day. I’m a normal person. I try to stay humble and approachable. You don’t have to be controversial. You have to care about the people you’re speaking to.” To celebrate the achievement Sasha is throwing a massive party at Manhattan in Johannesburg tonight. See who will be rocking the dancefloor at the club tonight above and big up to you Sash man. What a fantastic achievement!

Listen to Rihanna’s new track ” We Found Love: Unlocked”

One of the hardest working people in the business has to be Rihanna. Since 2005 the beauty hasn’t stopped. In fact she’s just got bigger and better since. She’s now wrapping up work on her brand new album, due out soon. This is her sixth record in so many years. Crazy. Have a listen to the first single off that album. It’s called We Found Love, produced by Calvin Harris. I love it. What do you think?
