Beyoncé to release “Live At Roseland” DVD

Who runs the world? Well the world of entertainment that is? I’d say Bono is up there, Brad and Angie too, but the couple that definitely runs the world of music has to be Beyoncé and Jay-Z. So with that in mind, it excites me to announce Beyoncé’s highly anticipated Live At Roseland DVD will be on sale from the 5th of December.

Back in August a limited audience got to see the multiple Grammy winner do what she does best at the famed Roseland Ballroom. Only 3500 tickets were made available for each of the four shows, and to cement her status as ‘King B’ the shows sold out in 22 seconds (a record).

Critics at The New York Times described the show as “robust,”  “finely-tuned,” and “compelling”. The show included material from her latest album, 4, as well as stories and performances from her previous records and from her Destiny’s Child days. In total you will get to see 26 songs in the DVD, awesome. I bet I sound like the Verimark voice-over dude when I say, but wait there’s more.

If you decide to get the deluxe version, you’ll get a two-disc DVD, complete with the full concert, offstage footage, and a video anthology that includes seven videos from 4. This is definitely one of the best Christmas presents you can give someone.

You can also catch the show on Channel O, DStv 320 on Sunday the 4th at 6pm if the above hasn’t sold you. Watch it and believe you me, you will be waiting patiently for the music stores to open so that you can own this little piece of history and magic.

Adele’s ‘Live At The Royal Albert Hall’ coming this November

So with Christmas looming, people (the organized types) will start heading to the shops to do their shopping ahead of the mad rush. I’m not one of those organized types, but alas. Here’s an idea for some of you. Arguably the biggest artist and the most successful of 2011 has to be British soul-singer Adele. Fresh off the success of her platinum selling album, “21”, which has sold 12million copies sold worldwide and counting, the star is now gearing up to release her “Live At The Royal Albert HallDVD and CD.

The concert film, which is 90 minutes in length, will be released on the 28th of November. Here is the tracklisting:
Hometown Glory
I’ll Be Waiting
Don’t You Remember
Turning Tables
Set Fire To The Rain
If It Hadn’t Been For Love
My Same
Take It All
Rumour Has It
Right As Rain
One & Only
Lovesong
Chasing Pavements
I Can’t Make You Love Me
Make You Feel My Love
Someone Like You
Rolling In The Deep

Dear Santa and his friends and family *wink*, I wouldn’t mind a copy of this. You know I’ve been painfully good this year. I thank you. Best, Jason

Catch Lira on her Captured Tour with Nokia

It’s all systems go for multiple award-winning singer Lira, who kicks off her Captured Tour in Johannesburg this weekend. The tour will see her travelling to six cities around the country, where she’ll be putting on a show like no other.  Each stop of the tour will be recorded as part of her forthcoming DVD, due out next year. I got to chat to the star last week for DStv.com the Phakade singer said she was excited to get on the road.

“The first DVD was just one night for one show. Now I’m taking that concept and moving it around the country, which is a first for me.”

In addition to her capturing some of the behind the scenes action in what goes into putting on a show like this, the star says there’s an opportunity for her fans to share their experiences with her and others too. “I wanted to give them a platform for them to experience themselves at shows and for us to capture the whole experience, not just from my perspective as an artist, but also from a fan’s perspective.”

Once this tour is done, the Channel O Music Video Award nominee will be heading back to America, where she’ll be releasing her album to that market. In pursuit of music’s biggest accolade, the Grammy, the star explains how she plans on doing that, “We’re taking it one step at a time. We’re just going over to make waves and to catch as much attention and to be remembered.”

While cracking it in the biggest music market in the world is somewhat daunting, the Feel Good singer said she is up for the challenge, “My team and I are ready. I always say yes the journey is difficult, but the scenery, the experience is why you go on your journey. It’s beautiful and it’s worth it. Sometimes the destination isn’t everything, the journey’s incredible.”

Lira’s Captured Tour dates:

9 October – The Boardwalk  Festive Lawn Area (PE)
22 October- Durban ICC (KZN)
26 October- Grand West Casino (CT)
29 October- Sun City (North West).
6 November- Free State National Botanical Gardens (Bloemfontein).

On the 29th of October, Lira will be recording her Sun City performance for the live DVD due out next year.

Be sure to visit www.misslira.com or Computicket to get your tickets for this not-to-be missed gig.

DStv launches BoxOffice

I’m very excited about this. DStv launched the much anticipated, internally at least, BoxOffice. The Video-on-Demand service will give premium subscribers the opportunity to rent their favourite Hollywood blockbusters. 15 titles will be on the PVR decoders from today and subscribers will be able to rent the movie for R25. This is great news for those who love movies. The DVD stores are great but the hassle of driving there and back, the possibility of fines being a reality and the fact that many of the titles are usually out is also a given most times. With BoxOffice that wont be the case. There is a lot of research that goes into the the titles that appear on the box and they’re fresh off the circuit, so this is great. Read the official press release below and happy watching this weekend.

Getting The Hangover this festive season?

Hangover Packshot

Barring Invictus, The Hangover is my movie of the year… It’s hilarious and all of us can relate. Well most I’m sure. We’ve had the wild nights out, partying it up (responsibly) and forgetting parts of, if not all of the fun night out. Well if you haven’t seen The Hangover, here’s a short synopsis for you:

A Las Vegas-set comedy centered around three groomsmen who lose their about-to-be-wed buddy during their drunken misadventures, then must retrace their steps in order to find him

I’ve got my DVD copy already… and if you’re looking for a good present for someone, this is the gift to give! You wont regret it and the person you give it to wont be handing it over to a thrift store!
