Estelle – Fall In Love ft. Nas [Official Video]

This lady knows how to turn out the hits. Check out Estelle‘s brand new video above for the song ‘Fall In Love’. It features Nas, John Legend and you’ll spot one of the new doctors from Grey’s Anatomy making an appearance in the video too. Name? Jesse Williams, who also recently came out to South Africa. Awesome. The video was directed by Sanaa Hamri and it was shot in Brooklyn.

Estelle and one of our local celebs, Dineo Ranaka got into a little Twitter fight this week- or rather an exchange of words followed by each party blocking the other:

“Its confusing feeling like #JohnLegend sumtimes isn’t it? I understand RT @EstelleDarlings: I absolutely feel like myself today. #thasall”

“#stillshocked Only if u knew me u wouldn’t hav RT @EstelleDarlings: @dineoranaka if ure going to shade try harder :) That was weak. #blocked”

Robin Thicke- Sex Therapy official video

Robin Thicke has a brand new album out called Sex Therapy: The Session and you can see the first single with the same name above. On the album, Thicke tells CNN, “I think that the word sexy embodies confidence with humility. If you just have confidence but you don’t have any humility that’s not sexy. Here is the official tracklisting:

Estelle hard at work on her new album

Estelle is hard at work on her new album; her follow-up to “Shine”. Her 2008 album scored her a world-wide hit with the song “American Boy,” which also won her a Grammy award earlier this year in the Best Rap/Sung Category. So more on the yet to be named album now. She’s enlisted the help of several heavyweight producers including Wyclef Jean, Black Eyed Peas‘ will.i.am and John Legend, as well as some newbies like TV On The Radio’s Dave Sitek. On the upcoming star she said, “
“A new guy called Dave Sitek from TV On The Radio – an amazing producer and brand new guy called Alex The Kid, he’s from London as well. I’m putting the features together now so it’s coming together.

Estelle told BBC’s Radio 1 that she’s “just recording this new album, I’m sick of singing American Boy, so I should do something new.”

Looking forward to hearing new material… with names such as the ones mentioned above and more, you know it’s going to be incredible. Here’s a track I still love, but that didn’t get as much exposure as I think it deserved. It’s Estelle ft Sean Paul called Come Over:

Brit Awards tonight

duffy.jpg
The annual Brit Awards take place tonight. The awards started out at the Wembley Stadium in 1977 and have grown considerably in the subsequent years. On the official website they have this really interactive timeline of the awards, so check it out here

Now it’ll be interesting to see if the UK music industry/ judges have similar tastes to that of the American market. ie will Coldplay and Adele win big like they did at the Grammys? Duffy is hugely popular in the UK, so will she perhaps take the Best Breakthrough artist and the Best Single category? And will she surprise everyone and beat out the likes of Coldplay in the Best Album category? Take That made a great comeback recently with the release of their latest album ‘Circus’, so they’re a band to look out for. Continue reading

Grammy winners

South Africa’s Ladysmith Black Mambazo have won the Grammy for Ilembe: Honoring Shaka Zulu. Still no word if the group were there to accept the award, but congratulations to them… fantastic news. Unfortunately The Soweto Gospel Choir unfortunately haven’t been lucky enough to win this time round, but they did play a part in Peter Gabriel’s song Down To Earth from the film Wall-E and he won in the Best Song Written For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media
(A Songwriter(s) award. Continue reading

Music's biggest night, who will shine?

grammy.jpg
The 51st Grammy awards take place in LA on Sunday night, and you can expect up-to-date info from the ceremony. I would love to be there, damn… perhaps next year! Coldplay and Lil Wayne are leading the way as far as nominations go, so lets see how they get on.

My predictions/ thoughts for winners in major categories are as follows:
Record of the year:
Leona Lewis- Bleeding Love. This track made history all over the globe. It’s a smash hit, an instant classic and Leona certainly deserves it. Continue reading

Coldplay, Duffy lead the Brit Award nominations

Tom Oxley/ NME/IPC.
The Brit Award nominations were announced in London last night and leading the pack, both with four nominations, are Coldplay and Duffy. These nominations only reflect the massive appeal both Coldplay and Duffy have and judging by their success ‘across the pond’ in the USA, they’re deserving of these nominations. It’s been said that Coldplay have been leading this ‘British invasion’, scoring themselves several top ten hits in the US from their album “Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends.” Continue reading
