Also, the Oscar nominations will be revealed this coming Thursday at 5am local time. The announcement will be made by Gangster Squad star, Emma Stone and actor Seth MacFarlane. I’ll bring you more on that on Thursday.

As far as the Globes go, I’m going to attempt to stay up, as I’ve done before to catch it live, but for you normal beings, you can catch the repeat on M-Net on Monday evening at 20:30.

2012 Golden Globes- The Artist wins Best Motion Picture Comedy or Musical

The ravishing Jane Fonda presented the award for Best Motion Picture Comedy or Musical to those involved in The Artist.

“In 1965 a young French man directed a short film and then prayed for a miracle to come. This film was nominated in 1966. This man was my father. So it is almost three years since he passed away and it is such a great honour to receive this award from the Hollywood Foreign Press. Thank you mostly to Michelle for everything that you are.”

Ricky Gervais laughs off Globes criticism

I take my hat off to Ricky Gervais. He says it like it is and his delivery might be funny, but it also makes you think. Why am I saying off of this? Well the (former?) Golden Globes host has come under fire for his hosting duties at this year’s event. He had a go at a whole host of Hollywood stars like Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp and their movie, The Tourist; “Ashton Kutcher’s Dad, Bruce Willis”, Charlie Sheen; Hugh Hefner and the Hollywood Foreign Press President Philip Berk. Maybe that’s where it all went wrong? Well you know what? I’d rather watch a controversial and funny host on stage as opposed to some boring “Hello and welcome” blah blah, snore, bullshit. Well done Ricky Gervais. If you don’t get the Globes again, then perhaps MTV will hire you to do the VMAs. Gosh our South African Music Awards could do with a host like you. Watch the interview CNN’s Piers Morgan did with his fellow Brit recently to find out his thoughts about the criticism and if you missed all the action, check out the video below of Gervais on stage:

Golden Globes 2011- Full list of winners

Here’s a recap of this year’s Golden Globe Awards. Ricky Gervais was a good, controversial host. Of course his jokes were their to make some of the guests feel uncomfortable, but hey, that’s what a comedian like him does. Robert DeNiro’s acceptance speech for the Cecil B DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award was great. At first I thought to myself, Matt Damon isn’t taking this very seriously, but then I realised that DeNiro himself is quite the funny man, so it was cool. Another really cool speech came from Anette Bening, who gratiously accepted her award for Best Actress in a Comedy/ Musical for her role in The Kids Are All Right.

The cameras kept panning to probably one of Hollywood’s most famous couple, Brad Pitt and Angelina. Twitter was abuzz, as Angelina straightened Brad’s tie as they cut to a commercial break. Angelina wasn’t lucky enough to scoop an award for her role in The Tourist, but looked gorgeous in her green ensemble. Colour works for her. A very pregnant Natalie Portman walked away with the coveted Best Actress award, which shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise to you. I still need to see Black Swan, ahead of the Academy Awards because she is well on her way to Oscar glory. The ever so polite Colin Firth won a Golden Globe for his role in The King’s Speech. He seems like an awesome, extremely humble and very funny man. At one point, CNN’s Piers Morgan said it was as “if was looking in a mirror” “Best line from my Firth i/v – ‘When I go to the supermarket, people come up and call me Piers.’ #true”. I said Colin could play him in the film biopic of his life. True too!

Glee was another big winner on the night with Chris Colfers, Jane Lynch and the best TV show. Claire Danes won yet again for her role in Temple Gardin and Boardwalk Empire also walked away victorious.

Hottie of the night has to go to Halle Berry! Hail Halle, holy hotness!

Robert DeNiro gets DeMille Lifetime Achievement

Matt Damon presents the prestigious Cecil B DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award to the legendary Robert DeNiro. He said, “I actually don’t go to movies a lot because I spend so much time making them. So I didn’t know who Robert DeNiro was until about five years ago when he asked me to be in his movie The Good Shepherd.” He then went on to quote some of the most famous lines Mr DeNiro has said over the years, before cutting to a montage of some of his biggest roles in movies like Cape Fear, The Awakenings, The Taxi Driver and Mean Street.

“Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you Matt and I loved you in The Fighter. I know it wont be long before Matt Damon is up here receiving his own award and it will be my honour to present it to him. If I’m still alive. I want to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press. I was so humbled to learn about the award well before you reviewed Little Fockers (laughs). We’re all in this together. I’m sorry many of the Foreign Press members weren’t with us tonight because I know a lot of them have been deported. There were a lot of movies missing from the presentation. I look at it and I think Christ I made nothing but hits. I think you would’ve enjoyed seeing a few seconds of Stanley and Iris. Some of you might be seeing this for the first time. A lot of you will be seeing this for the first time. These movies, all of them are like my children. Except my children are a lot more expensive. Thank you for this. Thank you very much”
