Uh, Jay Sean coming to SA?

Jay-Sean
So there I am browsing the Computicket website for information about another event and I so happen to stumble upon information regarding R&B singer Jay Sean. The ‘Down’ singer will be performing at Emperor’s Palace on the 31st… according to my favourite promoters “Dolphin Media”. This this the same company that was bringing out Whitney Houston in March, remember?

Another BS story perhaps? Anyone know details about this? I’ll find out all the necessary info as soon as I can!

Me In A Minute with singer Thembi Seete

The World Cup has helped bring people together to form one nation and our visitors will definitely be able to see this togetherness, along with the happiness and kindness we South Africans have to offer, while they are here for the competition. We are for sure now living Africanism!

Music is My Life is my latest album. I have been in the industry for so many years and for me to come back with a new album, I needed to show my fans that Thembi is back in a big way and I wanted the world to see that I am even more serious about my music. I have developed not only as a person but also as a songstress and performer. Therefore, for this album to be as successful as it has become, I had to have the best producers in place and a top team to make it work.

Making it what it is took a lot of saving up and a great deal of patience, followed by loads of hard work and dedication. This all takes time.

The production process was a lot of fun – from writing all the songs and lyrics to going for voice training and putting the right team in place to make it all work. It’s something I will never forget. To sum up this album, it is essentially everything I have learnt in my music career.

My six weeks of the World Cup celebrations are rather busy. I will be performing at most of the Fifa fan-parks in the Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg and Rustenburg areas.

I miss my days with Boomshaka, especially Lebo Mathosa. She played a huge role in my life and taught me a lot about myself. There was definitely a reason behind our meeting and working together. I miss all the craziness, but I learnt a lot over those years. Ten years on, I am making every effort to relive all the stuff we did, but on a more serious and respectful level.

In 1994, on the day Nelson Mandela was inaugurated, we were asked to perform at five different shows – all on that one day. We were flying from one city to the next (Joburg to Port Elizabeth to Cape Town to Durban to East London). It was an amazing experience and one I will never forget.

There were also some days when the girls and I would decide to do things spontaneously – like fly to London and go shopping on Oxford Street. We would just take risks and stand out from the crowd. Oh, how I miss those days.

The four things I would pack into my bag for a winter getaway include my sneakers – if we are going to be hiking, a girl definitely needs her sneakers. My warm tracksuit and socks – I get cold quite easily, so I definitely need my comfortable and warm tracksuit and socks to go with me. My toiletries – I am a toiletries addict, I buy toiletries even when I don’t need to. A few essential things I can’t live without are my face wash, toothbrush and toothpaste. And then my snacks and food – I love food and I’m certainly not one of those women who shies away from it. Lots of water, dried fruit and healthy snacks throughout the day keep me going. I think I must eat about six times a day, if not more. Luckily for me, I live a very active lifestyle.

One thing a few people won’t know about me is that I used to have one of the biggest and longest crushes on an ex-boss of mine – sorry, I just can’t share his name with you.

Hollywood star Terrence Howard encourages Jozi youth

American actor Terrence Howard took time out of his schedule at the weekend to watch a soccer match and enjoy lunch with some of the youth of Johannesburg. The star, who will play a young version of Nelson Mandela in the biopic Winnie also shared some words of encouragement with the children. I was there and I caught all the action on camera. Watch the video.

Justin Bieber versus glass door. Who wins?

Teen singing sensation and arguably the biggest name in the business at the moment, Justin Bieber showed us all that he, too, is just human. The “Baby” singer walked into a door at the Radisson recently and of course the paps were there to catch all the action. He’s a good sport though!

Katy Perry is Maxim's Hottie of the year!

Katy
When editor-in-chief of Maxim magazine, Joe Levy says he thinks singer Katy Perry is “triple – no quadruple – kind of hot,” I completely, 150% agree. This comes to light as the “California Gurls” singer was named the number 1 hottie in the magazine’s hottest 100 list. Levy went on to say, “It’s that feeling you get when you suddenly realize that the smartest, funniest, coolest girl you know also happens to the best looking and a pretty good skateboarder, too.”

I’ve always been a fan of Katy Perry because of her free spirit and fun lyrics, but when I saw her guest judging on American Idol, I found myself not listening to what she had to say, but rather staring aimlessly at how beautiful she is. Those blue eyes… eish, hottie! Perry’s fiance, Russel Brand is one lucky man, that’s for sure!

Also on the list was Sports Illustrated swimwear model, Brooklyn Deckers (2), Gossip Girls’ Blake Lively, Rihanna, Zoe Saldana and more. Check out the full list here.

I feel this is going to be a big big year for Miss Perry, as she’s expected to drop her sophomore album soon. Can’t wait. So for your listening pleasure, here is the first single off that album. It’s called California Gurls and it features Snoop Dogg. Have a listen:

District 9's Wikus attempts to meet Charlize Theron

Hugh and Sal Masekela: Like Father Like Son

Jazz icon Hugh Masekela and his son Sal have embarked on a journey of a lifetime- a ten-part TV series for sports network ESPN. The show, entitled “Umlando – Through My Father’s Eyes”, will take viewers on an introspective journey of South Africa, its many cultures and its history. I caught up with the two to find out more about the project. Listen to the interview. It really is going to be such a fantastic project and I hope it gets all the attention it deserves! Another career highlight right about now!

Weezy Thanx You

So Lil Wayne is officially serving his sentence and while his 9 or so music videos were shot prior to his incarceration, the Weezy hype won’t die down. Why you might ask? Well it’s simple, he will be blogging from behind bars on his ‘Weezy Thanx You‘ site. It’s believed that the posts will be written behind bars and then updated by one of his reps. Here is his first post:

“During my prison stint, I want my fans to know I love you. I want all of you to know that I appreciate all the mail I get, and this is my way of saying thank you. The F is for Family, Friends, and Fans.

Love. Live. Life. Proceed. Progress. That’s who I am and who I’ll always be. You see, we’re all living on borrowed time, so I’m not worried about this situation. Life happens quick. The more time you spend contemplating what you should have done…you lose valuable time planning what you can and will do. Trying to tear down the past prohibits you from building up your future. So for my time here, my physical will be confined to the yard. My love and my spirit, however, know no boundaries. Continue reading
