The Help, The Artist win big at the SAG Awards

We’re heading closer and closer to the biggest night in film, with the Academy Awards a little under a month away.

The latest awards show took place last night, that being the Screen Actors Guild Awards. We’ve seen early wins from The Artist and The Help at other award shows and that hasn’t stopped them here. Jean DuJardin is bound to win his first Academy Award, as he walked away with the Best Actor in a Lead Role award. Meryl Streep took home the Golden Globe recently for her role in The Iron Lady. When she got her Oscar nomination nodd, it seemed as if she’d be well on her way to Oscar glory. That was until Viola Davis won the award last night for her role in The Help. Right now it’s anyone’s game and one thing’s for sure, it’s going to get interesting.

Others winners worth mentioning? The Boardwalk Empire crew, Betty White and the rest of her Hot in Cleveland cast as well as the ever awesome and hilarious Modern Family team. Well done to all the winners (and nominees). Check out the full list of winners below: Continue reading

More Oscars

Congratulations to all the winners from the 81st Academy Awards. Slumdog Millionaire cleaned up this year, nabbing 8 of it’s ten nominations. Kate Winslet, you rock. Her role in Revolutionary Road was just as convincing, but it was The Reader that got her the Oscar. For a detailed view and opinion on this year’s Academy Awards, the winners, the shockers and everything else visit Rob McKay’s The Freeze Frame

Best Actress

“Most inspiring actresses” Last year’s winner Marion Cotillard said about Winslet before awarding her this year’s Academy Award.

Best actress goes to Kate Winslet. The Reader. It’s her first and oh so deserving!!!!
“This is not a shampoo bottle now. I feel very fortunate to have made it from there to here. I’m so lucky to have a wonderful husband and two beautiful children. I want to acknowledge my fellow nominees, these goddesses. I don’t think any of us can believe we’re in the same category as Meryl. To the Academy thank you so much”

Below, the annoucement and Kate’s speech:

The Oscars red carpet

The 81st Academy Awards red carpet- a brief look.

The Slumdog cast all arrived on the red carpet. From the young Latika to ‘old’, Freida Pinto looked gorgeous. This is such a big night for her and Dev Patel. They must be so overwhelmed , but I hope they embrace this all. Great movie, well done to Danny Boyle (director) and Vikas Swarup (author of Q&A) for bringing this story to life.

Heidi Klum is absolutely beautiful. She always makes such a statement on the red carpet and often in red, nice Heidi. You can see she’s still totally in love with her man Seal.

Who is John Legend’s girlfriend? She’s a hottie.

A busy few hours

http://www.bafta.org/
While musicians gear up for the big night in music, across the pond actors and actresses are walking the wet, red carpet for this year’s BAFTAs taking place in London. Singer Alesha Dixon, who was recently in South Africa (Check it out) was presenting on the red carpet alongside Steve Jones. Both of them seemed a little starstruck, as some of the biggest names walked past them. The Branjelina bunch were there; fresh from their promo trip to the East, as was Emma Watson (Harry Potter), Meryl Streep, Mickey Rouke and Kate Winslet. Winslet was asked how she was feeling ahead of the ceremony, to which she said she was extremely nervous because of this being her hometown etc. Kate fear not, I’m sure you’ll be fine. For more on the BAFTAs read movie critic, Rob McKay’s blog here and to see all the latest trailers click here

Kate Winslet has been nominated for yet another Oscar for her role in The Reader.
