Grammys 2012- red carpet

The 54th Annual Grammy Awards are here. Finally. It’s going to be a bittersweet evening tonight, but here are a few highlights from the red carpet.

Big hair seems to be the order of the day. Corinne Bailey Rae, Kelly Rowland are showing that tonight. As is Diana Ross. Bruno is wearing Tom Brown.

Kelly Price spoke about chatting and singing with Whitney Houston, whom she sang with on Thursday evening. She said it was an honour and that she didn’t expect her to get up and sing, but Whitney insisted. When Ryan asked her what Whitney would’ve wanted tonight, she said, “She would want it to be celebratory and about the music. She loved what she did.”

Sasha Gradiva is looking very bizarre. She’s got some pink number on, which isn’t bad but the the ‘jewelery’ is the gun

Maroon 5′s Adam Levin talks about Whitney Houston, “She’s just Whitney freaken Houston. We’re all upset”. He also told Ryan Seacrest that he was excited to take to the stage with the likes of the Beach Boys and Foster the People.

Juilianne Hough tells Giuliana that her boyfriend Ryan Seacrest helped her picked out her outfit. Aah cute. They have a dual screen going up and they’re just cut to Ryan.

Fergie’s “more conservative” dress is very bright. She is rocking an orange number with black lingerie ;) She was nominated and subsequently won for her role.

Jessie J says “it’s very surreal but I’m excited to be here. I’m excited to see Adele and represent the Brits”. She also said she was sad about the passing of Whitney Houston. “Her daughter was at the rehearsals and I got to meet her. I feel very honoured to be alive with her music”.

Katy Price has taken on a smurf look. Sans the blue hair, the rest of her looks good. Hopefully she’s on the road to becoming a happy smurf again.

Nicki Minaj arrived with her Bishop tonight. Sound weird? Well when a picture surfaces I will post it because clearly he’s her date for the night. She’s looking like Red Riding Hood. The makeup is very simple but she looks good.

Malin Ackerman is here too. Her dress doesn’t do much for me. I’m sure Joan Rivers will tackle this in more detail. Watch out for this.

John Legend is chatting to Ryan Seacrest. He gushed to Ryan about being newly engaged. His wife-to-be is beautiful.

Alicia Keys looks amazing tonight. The hair, the makeup, the dress. She just looks gorgeous.

Rihanna looks beautiful. Very very very good. Yowza! Winner! She’s in Armani.

Flo Rida on hearing about Whitney Houston’s death: “I was about to go on stage. I definitely spoke to the fans. She inspired me and my condolences go out to her”. He told Ryan Seacrest that there is some good things coming.

X-Factor cutting down for season 2

So X-Factor USA might’ve had some of the best TV ratings next to Idol and it had a massive prize for the winner Melanie Amaro. The judges were all full of opinions (and themselves) and sometimes it seemed to be more of a competition about who chose the right song for their respective contestants rather than about the talent who performed them. Nicole Scherzinger became one of the most talked about – and in a not good way- when she decided not so save 13-year-old Rachel Crow from elimination.

The result? She has been cut, but she’s not the only one. Her fellow judge Paula Abdul has also been relieved of her duties according to E Online. On their site they state, “Believe it or not, Fox has informed Simon Cowell‘s longtime friend Paula Abdul she won’t be needed for the series’ next installment”. Awkward for Paula….

If that wasn’t enough, the host of the show Steve Jones has also been given the boot. Adios, ciao… thanks for coming. So now it’s anyone’s guess as to who will take up the hosting duties as well as the empty seats on the judging panel. The rumour mill has dropped Mariah Carey‘s name already, but Kelly Rowland seemed to hit the right spot in the UK, so perhaps she’ll be hopping across the pond back to her home country. Or will it be a Simon vs LA Reid fest? Barring Nicole’s little rants, it pretty much was that… a classic case of “Mine is better than yours”

Watch Beyoncé’s new video, “Party”

Mama-to-be Beyoncé might be carrying the most famous unborn child to date, but that isn’t stopping her from grafting. The superstar has been churning out loads of music videos from her latest album “4″, which is what the record label said they would do. This is of course as many speculated how the album would be a flop. It has been quite the opposite actually, thinking “Girls… Run the World”, “Best Thing I Never Had”, “Countdown” and “Love On Top”.

She continues on this path by releasing the latest video for the track “Party”. Now if you have the album, you will know that Andre 3000 of Outkast fame is credited for his contribution, but in this video it’s the new “It boy” who features on the track, that being J. Cole. I wonder what the vibe is there?

It’s a cool video, exactly how I thought it would pan out actually. It’s funny how when you hear a track, a certain look and feel is created in your head. And so when the video finally hits the web, you know you get the meaning, the feeling of the song :) In the video you will also get to see aunties Solange and Kelly Rowland too. We haven’t seen Kelly and Beyoncé in a video since Destiny’s Child days, so this is really is cool.

Awesome video, love me some B. Now all I want is a video for Start Over and then to wrap up the album, “I Was Here”. Then I will be happy for her to go and rest haha, but it would be a great way for her to take a breather and prepare for the birth of her first child don’t you think? Read the lyrics below and see how appropriate they are: Continue reading

Watch Kelly Rowland ‘Lay It On Me’ now

Easily one of Kelly Rowland’s best tracks for me. As for the music video for this track, “Lay It On Me”… wow! Hot city. She looks exquisitely beautiful in this and it’s definitely one of the hottest tracks on rotation at the moment. Viewer discretion is advised for younger and prudish viewers ;)

TG for Good Music- Taio Cruz/ Kelly Rowland

These two tracks (above and below) have a very similar sound to them… the fusion of urban and dance music is definitely the current trend. I dig it, huge fan of Kelly and David Guetta’s constant collabs and I think Taio Cruz is getting there too! TGIF peops, enjoy!

FIFA World Cup closing ceremony

Check out some of the amazing pictures from last night’s FIFA World Cup Closing Ceremony here. I thought Shakira and Freshlyground did an amazing Waka Waka; I though the ‘Everywhere you go’ track by several top African artists was okay. I was a bit shocked that Kelly Rowland wasn’t there. I know she’s busy getting her new material out there, but seriously you can’t ask for a bigger platform then this. So I feel she lost out. As for the 3D technology? Well. That was simply magnificent. It kept the themes and cultures associated with Africa, but modernised it in such a way so as to prove to the rest of the world (and the haters) that this continent is special, splendid and world class.

Besides the fireworks at the end of the game, which saw Spain winning the World Cup for the first time, the highlight for me was seeing our former president, Nelson Mandela riding across the field. From his golf cart, the almost 92-year-old living legend waved and in a sense blessed this momentous occasion. I was at the official fan park in Sandton, Johannesburg and let me tell you as soon as the 35 000 + crowd saw him, everyone jumped to their feet to honour his presence; clapping and cheering loudly. I will shamelessly admit that I was so moved when I saw him that I had many a tear in my eyes! His blessing, his presence. Wow. Such an wonderful, good and wise spirit.

Well done to South Africa and its citizens for hosting this event in true style. To Danny Jordaan and the rest of the Local Organising Committee; to Sepp Blatter and his FIFA team; to the media and to all our foreign guests: Well done and congratulations. This is a once in a lifetime event that I will hold close to my heart for a very long time. Blessed, humbled and thankful to be able to say, I was there!

Staying Alive with Travis McCoy and MTV

Earlier this year, Travis McCoy of the Gym Class Heroes, traveled to South Africa, India and the Phillipines as part of his commitment and duties as the MTV Staying Alive Ambassador. The responsibilities of this job include scouting out the different resources needed to prevent the spread of HIV and Aids. You’ll recall last year Kelly Rowland did the same thing and she was extremely moved by what she saw and experienced on that trip. Now with it being World Aids Day and all, Travie has released a song inspired by his experience and you can download it here. Travis on the project, “I met some amazing and inspiring young people – and this track is dedicated to them and their tireless and selfless commitment to the fight against HIV and AIDS.” The Unbeaten Track airs on MTV tonight.

The lyrics start off like this:

“Can’t change the world over night – but we can start by saving a life
One at a time, One at a time
So lets make history and help out those in need
One at a time, One at a time
We can change a life”

What about you guys, do you #Knowyourstatus?

Kelly Rowland- Good recovery at MOBOs

She, like many viewers, seemed a little shocked with the sounds and I suppose the lack of backing track at last week’s awards, but she recovered well. I sometimes get the feeling she holds back during live performances because she doesn’t think she can pull off a good performance… but if this is anything to go by, she just finds her groove and gets into it! Nice one Kelly
