Press statement: Remona Moodley to represent SA at Miss World

Oi, just got a very unexpected email. Miss SA, Melinda Bam wont be attending the Miss World pageant in August. Instead the First Princess Remona Moodley will be there, representing SA in Mongolia. On the one hand it’s very sad that Melinda wont be able to rep SA, but it’s a great opportunity for Remona.

Melinda has been an incredible Miss SA and she’s one of the nicest people I’ve met in the industry, so I hope her family circumstances are sorted out soon and that she’ll be ready for Miss Universe.

Check out the official press release below:

Miss South Africa First Princess, Remona Moodley will be representing South Africa at this year’s Miss World Pageant in Ordos, Inner Mongolia, People’s Republic of China on 18 August 2012.

Melinda Bam the reigning Miss South Africa will not be representing South Africa at the Miss World Pageant due to personal circumstances. While Melinda regrets that she will not be gracing the Miss World stage, she is working closely with Remona in preparation for the competition. ‘I want her to win, and believe she can” says the big hearted Miss South Africa.  “Melinda has taken the scary element out of the experience and replaced it with a sense of anticipation and excitement. Her advice has been invaluable,” says Remona Moodley.
Remona Moodley is no stranger to pageants and held the title of First Princess for Miss SA Teen in 2006 and was crowned Miss India South Africa in 2005. Remona is 23 years old and has an Electrical Engineering Degree from the University of Cape Town. This year, Remona launched the Fund-A-Dream       Foundation which aims at sourcing funding for talented young South Africans to prevent financial constraints from stifling their dreams. The campaigns include Educate-to-Motivate, Start-A-Scholarship and See-A-Need, Fill-A-Need.
The Educate-to-Motivate campaign is aimed at providing students with a complete education package. Already, six grade 12 learners from Hout Bay High have received scholarships to the total value of R25 000 and all 660 learners were given a stationery pack to kick-start their year. The Start-A-Scholarship campaign finds companies and individuals to sponsor a young person with a specific talent or goal and the See-A-Need, Fill-A-Need campaign enables young people to promote their needs on the Fund-A-Dream website.

“Remona is a smart young woman set for success,” says Sue Klerck Sun International Resorts Executive. For a month Remona will participate in numerous activities and sightseeing events. We are delighted that fashion designer, Haroun Hansrot has agreed to design her formal evening gown.”

Durban based Haroun Hansrot is known for his fusion of Indian and Western style, and his quality and exquisite attention to detail. “His design will be a perfect foil for Remona’s exotic Indian ancestry,” says Klerck.

Sun International, the license holders of the Miss South Africa pageant, fully supports Remona in her quest to bringing home the crown. “We are extremely proud of Remona taking on this challenge and wish her success in her journey,” says Klerck.

Congratulations to Melinda Bam, the new Miss South Africa

Congratulations to the new Miss South Africa, Melinda Bam. The Pretoria resident walked away with the title during the live broadcast on DStv’s Mzansi Magic. A couple of months ago I came through to Sun City for work. The crew were filming the Road To Miss South Africa and it was there that I caught a glimpse of Miss Bam. She’s perfect for the title. She’s smart, exquisitely beautiful and I think she will do very well during her reign. Check out this little clip I did with her earlier. I’m interviewing her in the morning for DStv. If you have any questions, holler :)

Bokang Montjane is the new Miss South Africa

I can’t believe it was a year ago that Nicole Flint was crowned Miss South Africa at the Sun City Superbowl. Shows you how quick time passes us by because last night the new Miss SA was crowned. The live broadcast on DStv’s Mzansi Magic saw Bokang Montjane being crowned as the new Miss SA. The 24-year-old beauty hails from Polokwane in Limpopo. On top of her agenda is world peace! Jokes, Bokang says she would like to focus on solving the teenage pregnancy rates. Good for you and good luck!

Me In A Minute with Tatum Keshwar

Being Miss SA was a wonderful experience, definitely life changing, as it brought along so many other opportunities. I grew tremendously within that year. I often reminisce on my experiences but life post Miss SA has been a new and interesting journey. It is now time to reap the benefits of that exciting and successful year.

It’s amazing how things have unfolded, almost organically. Becoming a Top Billing presenter has always been a dream of mine. I love meeting interesting people, so my highlight is definitely the people I interview. If I had to choose one: Supermodel Iman, because she’s intriguing. So humble, funny, has an elegant aura (and she told me I’m gorgeous!) What’s not to love?!

This year we are jetting off to the beautiful paradise island of Phuket for the Tropika Island of Treasure. The past two years the winners paired with celebrities to win a shared prize of a million. This year – it’s one man for themselves, one contestant will end up a millionaire and a Reality TV star. When they approached me, my first question was: “where do we stay?” I am very competitive but roughing it is not my style. About a strategy… You’ll have to watch for that. I’m not about to give much away… But this Beauty Queen knows a thing or two about competition…So to join me in Thailand to compete for R1mil sms Tatum Keshwar and your name, age and city to 41682 to enter.

Some of the must-haves for this trip include sun Block. Some beautiful bikinis and beach accessories like Sunnies, hats, Kaftans and flip-flops and Tropika. A lady can look good while winning!

Modelling is something I still love doing. If you have it, you just know how to work it. My height and the fact that I enjoy the attention as well as the opportunity to embody a different persona have helped me to strut my stuff and give the perfect pout.

I love all these new opportunities the titles of Miss South Africa and Miss World 2nd Princess have provided me. However, I do love Psychology and particularly Industrial Psychology. I’m balancing my entertainment and media with some corporate and business work. There is something interesting in the pipeline. You’ll have to watch this space, but for now, my lips are sealed.

I recently walked two kilometers in high heels for Women’s day while I was there for Cape Town Fashion Week. It is called The High Walk and is to raise awareness for and in support against Women and Child abuse. It is walked by women and men, dressed as women. Good fun! I had a great pair of heels on, didn’t realize 2km was that far though, but it was for a great cause!

Sky Diving is definitely one of the craziest things I’ve ever done! I was determined to do it because it was a dream of mine. That was until I was standing on the ledge of the plane at 10 000ft, air chasing past me with a chute strapped to my back and thinking “Oh no, what am I doing?! It’s too late to turn back!!” It was, however, one of the best experiences of my life! Truly exhilarating!

The old school classic Lovely Day by Bill Withers is a great way to start to my day, or Dr Feelgood by Travie McCoy is a new song that I love which really get me going when I hear it! My all-time favourite get up and go song though, is Make it Happen by Mariah Carey.

The one question Google cannot answer is what is success? Although there are millions of definitions for success on google, that is one of the many questions that can only be discovered personally from the inside out.
