Snoop Lion heads to South Africa

snoop 3

Lighters up peops, Snoop Lion is on his way to South Africa this May. He’ll be heading out to the sunny shores of Durban to headline the MTV Africa All Stars Concert on the 18th of May. The former Dogg now Lion said he was excited about heading out to SA again. “I’m honoured to bring this important message of peace and love to South Africa,” said Snoop Lion. “This is the motherland and a place of so much history and strife. I hope that this concert reminds us it is also a place of joy, love, celebration and peace – which is very much in line with where I am as an artist right now. I want to thank all the incredible artists joining me and props to MTV for sharing this important moment with the world.”

While on stage at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium, the star is without a shadow of a doubt, going to share experience of his putting together his latest release, REINCARNATED. In case you don’t know, it’s his multi-media project capturing Snoop’s exploration of reggae music and spiritual growth.

More details on this and the MTV Africa All Stars event coming soon, but in the mean time check out www.mtvbase.com, join us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/MTVBaseVerified, or follow us on Twitter @MTVBaseAfrica, using the hashtag #AfricaAllStars.

[Video] Rihanna – Diamonds

Finally, #Diamonds is out! Rihanna’s brand new video for the smash hit, Diamonds is out. It’s taken off her forthcoming album, Unapologetic, which is out in the next two weeks. Beautiful video. Love the song. Happiness on this Friday evening ;)

Listen to Girl On Fire by Alicia Keys

Alicia Keys has just released the first official single off her forthcoming album, Girl On Fire. The title single was released last night and the star is set to perform it live on the MTV VMAs stage tomorrow evening. On the album the star says, “I have arrived at a place in myself that I am comfortable being exactly who I am in this moment and sharing it with no reservations.”

The single features Nicki Minaj. There are two versions of song. The one above is called the Inferno Version and the one below is the bluelight version. The bluelight version is a stripped down version, which for me is where Keys really shows her unbelievable talent.

I love both versions. I think the inferno version is more suitable for radio playlists, but I’m digging the blue version… what can I say, blue is my colour man ;) Stripped down, vulnerable Alicia Keys is incredible. Listen to her version of Empire State of Mind, Part II Broken Down to see what I mean. The album is set for release on the 27th of November. I cannot wait!!

Details for the MTV Base VJ search

Have you, like me, ever wanted to be an MTV VJ? Do you love music, celebrities? Do you like globetrotting, hanging out at some of the swankiest parties around? Well here’s your chance to make it happen.

MTV Base is once again embarking on another VJ search that will allow the winner to join the ranks of previous winner Sizwe Dhlomo and Fikile “Fix” Moeti. Auditions around SA kick off in July, the 14th and the 21st to be precise.

Here’s what you will need to do in your audition: Imagine you’re live on MTV Base and need to present to the millions of MTV Base viewers across the continent. You’ll need to cover the following:

- Give a short presentation about yourself;
- Review your favourite artist and your favourite music video by this artist;
- Introduce this music video to the millions of viewers watching MTV base;
- Improvise and just be yourself, as we want to see what YOU are about.

It wont be an easy ride. The judges are some of the most respected people in the business and so don’t take this lying down. Live presenter Bonang Matheba, Hip-Hop star HHP, TV presenter and DJ Azania Mosaka and MTV Creative Director Tim Horwood will all be on the judging panel, so be prepared and be ready to wow!

The Queen B said, “I am so excited to be a judge in the 2012 MTV Base VJ Search.  It’s tough to break into the entertainment business, so this is a fantastic opportunity. I started my own TV career at the tender age of 15 so I know how much raw, untapped talent is out there just waiting to be found… I know we’re going to find someone out of this world!” Continue reading

Selena Gomez to host this year’s MTV Europe Music Awards

Forget Guy Fawkes and remember! Remember the 6th of November because that is the day one of the most entertaining and brilliant music awards takes place. It’s the annual MTV Europe Music Awards. This year’s awards will take place in Belfast and MTV has just announced who the host is… It’s teen sensation Selena Gomez.

Here’s what MTV is promising for this year’s awards and its choice of host:

For the first time ever, MTV will have its EMA host fully integrated into the show across multiple screens, as Gomez will be the lynchpin across all platforms for MTV’s global celebration of the year’s best in music.  As host of the main show, she’ll be overseeing all the onstage antics, performances, winners and unforgettable moments of the evening.  On the digital front, Gomez will be juggling several duties to engage with EMA fans all over the world throughout the show – from checking in with the Twitterverse to sharing behind-the-scenes gossip to offering her unique commentary on mtvema.com.

On being announced as the host, the star said, “I’m so excited to be the host of the ‘2011 MTV EMA’ – it’s a dream come true! This is such a huge event that always recognizes the biggest stars in music from across the globe, so it’s a real honor to be MC at this year’s show.”

Don’t forget you have the power to decide who walks away with the awards. All you need to do is vote by visiting the www.mtvema.com.

So there you have it. What do you think about this news?

The 2011 MTV EMA nominees are coming. On the 6th of November, Belfast will light up with some of the bigget names in music being honoured by one of the world’s leading music channels. Clifton Shores is coming

The Hills might be over, but this show could be the next best thing. It’s MTV’s latest reality TV drama called Clifton Shores. It shows a bunch of young American women moving down to South Africa for what appears to be a once in a lifetime opportunity, to be party hosts. They’re working closely for their billionaire boss. It has all the makings of a great reality show, that isn’t scripted *coughs*. Beautiful women, bulky, toned guys, drama between friends all set on the magnificent backdrop that is Cape Town, the Mother City, South Africa. Clifton beaches are amazing but who knew they could hold so much drama too :) The show is expected to start later this year on MTV. As soon as I have more details on the cast and the broadcast details, I’ll bring them to you.
