Golden Globes 2013 red carpet

r-JENNIFER-LAWRENCE-SINGLE-large570

I’m up and at it and getting ready for the 70th Golden Globes Awards. I’m currently watching the E! Entertainment Live from the Red Carpet special with Ryan Seacrest and Giuliana Rancic. So far I’ve seen the lovely Adele looking great in Burberry. Nicole Kidman, Marion Cotillard, Julianne Moore were all looking pretty too.

Kate Hudson went black because she “decided to go for comfort”. She is presenting the Best Supporting Actor Award tonight. Stacey Kiebler is wearing Armani Privé “fresh off the plane from Paris”. It’s nice to see that despite the rumours, her and George Clooney are still going strong. And while they’re going strong, stars such as Jennifer Lawrence and Taylor Swift walked the red carpet alone after they both announced their ‘freedom’ last week. I haven’t seen Taylor, but single is working for Silver Linings Playbook actress.

Sofia Vergara always turns heads on the red carpet, and once again she’s looking great. We’re used to seeing her wearing colour on the carpet, but tonight she decided to go with a black number because she loved it. Denzel Washington brought his daughter along tonight. He is nominated in the Lead Actor category. What a cool cat, looking suave in his suit as is Leonardo DiCaprio.

Almost show time…

Terrence Jenkins joins E! News

Ryan Seacrest…. Out, Terrence Jenkins… in. Seacrest has stepped down from his co-hosting duties on E! News. The entertainment mogul will be focusing on producing more great programming through his production company and on hosting American Idol. I also read something not so long ago about him starting his own network, but there is no further info on that at this point. So with Seacrest’s departure comes some new talent and energy in the form of presenter and actor Terence Jenkins.

Jenkins or Terrence J as he has been referred to has been hosting BET’s “106 & Park” video countdown for the last few years. He now moves to E to join Giuliana Rancic as the new host on E! News. The changes come into affect as of the 12th of November. He and Giuliana will host the show during the week, while Jason Kennedy and Catt Sandler hold down the weekend duties. In a statement on E! Online, he said, “I’ve always had a passion for the wide spectrum of pop culture that E! News covers so well; I can’t wait to get started. I’ve had a great career so far, and it¹s all been building toward this. And then getting to work with great people like Giuliana and the entire E! News team just makes this seem like an even more perfect opportunity.”

It’s sad to see Seacrest go, but we haven’t heard the last of him and I think Terrence will do a sterling job. BTW, I’ve already sent in my interview request ;)

Phillip Phillips wins American Idol

Phillip Phillips is the new American Idol. He was announced as the winner during the two hour live finale from the Nokia Theatre in down town Los Angeles.

The star-studded live performance had the audience up on their feet on more than one occasion. Rihanna performed her latest single Where Have You Been on the stage. This is the latest single off her new album Talk That Talk, which is such a lekker track.

Jennifer “JLo” Lopez also performed tonight. She will be hitting the road soon to promote and perform tracks from her LOVE album, as well as many other songs from her long, illustrious and very successful career. This has been a good season for JLO. She was named the most beautiful and the most powerful celebrity in the world. Steven Tyler has been a little subdued this year but that doesn’t mean his stage presence is gone. His performance alongside the rest of his Aerosmith band mates was rocking, as to be expected.

Also on the stage tonight, Jordin Sparks (who has had a really good week), the legendary Neil Diamond and Reba McEntire, Fantasia Barrino and  CCR’s John Fogerty. A great performance that is a must is the one between Jessica Sanchez and Jennifer Holliday. The two performed “And I Am Telling You” and oh my word was it good. The soulful and the petit divas show off their amazing vocal abilities and that performance scored them a standing ovation. AMAZING!!!

The top 12 guys performed a medley of Bee Gees songs as part of a tribute to the late Robin Gibb, who died at the weekend. They performed tracks like To Love Somebody and How Deep Is Your Love. It’s nice to see that the Idol bosses jumped on this. The news broke too close to the live broadcast of the Billboard Music Awards, so there wasn’t a musical tribute. So well done to the AI bosses.

Two other highlights to watch out for:

- The Phonebook song as performed by this year’s contestants. This was to honour Randy’s statement, “Dude you can sing the phonebook”. It was classic, loved it.

- The wedding proposal. Season 5 finalists Diana DeGarmo and Ace Young were caleld to the stage by host Ryan Seacrest. Little did we know, it was because Young was about to propose to his Idols sweetheart. Naturally she said yes. Very cute this was.

This is the performance in my opinion that won it for Phillip. It’s his debut single Home:

It’s very Mumford & Sons- ish… Love it, especially the marching band vibe too!

American Idol – Phillip vs Jessica

The 11th season of the hugely popular reality show, American Idol is drawing to a close. The two-part finale is set to take place at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles tonight and tomorrow night with 16-year-old Jessica Sanchez taking on Phillip Phillips in the finale. The two will have to bring more than just their A-games tonight, as their final performances will be judged by none other than the voters at home.

If we look at the last few years, Phillip has more of an advantage over Jessica in that the voting demographic is largely a female teenage audience, but stranger things have happened. You’ll recall Sanchez was voted out during the top 10, but the judges decided without any hesitation to use their one save on her. She then went on to wow not just the judges week after week, but also the viewers at home. So at this point it’s anyone’s to win.

I like Phillip and I think he is set either way, but I just feel like it is time for a female winner again and there isn’t anyone better than Sanchez. This young lady has huge pipes and a very bright future ahead of her. Weigh in. Who do you think will win?

The countdown to Idols is on

Today I find myself at the Sun City complex out in the North West Province. The reason for my visit it to catch a glimpse of this year’s talent in the hit singing show Idols.  The field has been narrowed down from thousands of hopefuls to just a handful today and while I wont be able to share too much of what happens until you all see it on TV, I’m sure I can sneak a few pics of the judges and possibly some of the hopefuls who are in the running to be the new Idol.

This year I’m hoping to see a lot more soulful singers and I’ll put it out there, I think it’s time we have a female winner again. The boy’s club is cool and they’ve all done well in their respective days since Idols, but it’s time for a lady to win I feel. Look it’s based on votes and may the best person win, but this is just what I’m hoping will transpire. I’ve heard a few murmurs since I’ve been here of some of the interesting personalities you’ll get to see in this season… and I don’t mean the contestants or the judges, I mean a few TV personalities who you will love. Stay tuned, more to follow…

UPDATE:

The contestants I saw performing yesterday were great. They’re a very soulful bunch this year and I’m glad to see that. I don’t know who went through though, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see when the show airs on M-Net and Mzansi Magic this June. What I can say is that there are a few familiar faces (seasons gone by) that are there. If you watched another reality show a few years back on M-Net, you might recognise two of the young ladies too. There’s a soccer player turned singer who will get a lot of ladies voting no doubt and then there are a few other interesting characters too. It’s going to be a great season no doubt!

VIDEO: Sacha Baron Cohen scatters ashes on Ryan Seacrest

Oh dear, Burberry wont be too impressed with this. Seacrest being the ultimate professional takes this very well. Baron Cohen threatened to walk the carpet as a dictator and that’s exactly what he did, but scattering ashes on Ryan isn’t what any of us expected. What a chop.

Grammys 2012 – Foo Fighters win Best Rock Performance

Best Rock Performance goes to the Foo Fighters for their track Walk

“Thank you very much everybody. This is a great honour because this record was a special record for the bands. Rather than using the fancy computers you can buy, we made it in my garage. It shows that the human element of making music is the most important thing you can do”

Ryan Seacrest introduced the Beach Boys, along with Foster the People and Maroon 5. Maroon 5 got it going with Surfer Girls. Foster the People then tackled Wouldn’t It Be Nice. Celebrating their 50th Anniversary in the business, the Beach Boys (Men) hopped onto the stage to perform their song Good Viberations.

Grammys 2012- red carpet

The 54th Annual Grammy Awards are here. Finally. It’s going to be a bittersweet evening tonight, but here are a few highlights from the red carpet.

Big hair seems to be the order of the day. Corinne Bailey Rae, Kelly Rowland are showing that tonight. As is Diana Ross. Bruno is wearing Tom Brown.

Kelly Price spoke about chatting and singing with Whitney Houston, whom she sang with on Thursday evening. She said it was an honour and that she didn’t expect her to get up and sing, but Whitney insisted. When Ryan asked her what Whitney would’ve wanted tonight, she said, “She would want it to be celebratory and about the music. She loved what she did.”

Sasha Gradiva is looking very bizarre. She’s got some pink number on, which isn’t bad but the the ‘jewelery’ is the gun

Maroon 5′s Adam Levin talks about Whitney Houston, “She’s just Whitney freaken Houston. We’re all upset”. He also told Ryan Seacrest that he was excited to take to the stage with the likes of the Beach Boys and Foster the People.

Juilianne Hough tells Giuliana that her boyfriend Ryan Seacrest helped her picked out her outfit. Aah cute. They have a dual screen going up and they’re just cut to Ryan.

Fergie’s “more conservative” dress is very bright. She is rocking an orange number with black lingerie ;) She was nominated and subsequently won for her role.

Jessie J says “it’s very surreal but I’m excited to be here. I’m excited to see Adele and represent the Brits”. She also said she was sad about the passing of Whitney Houston. “Her daughter was at the rehearsals and I got to meet her. I feel very honoured to be alive with her music”.

Katy Price has taken on a smurf look. Sans the blue hair, the rest of her looks good. Hopefully she’s on the road to becoming a happy smurf again.

Nicki Minaj arrived with her Bishop tonight. Sound weird? Well when a picture surfaces I will post it because clearly he’s her date for the night. She’s looking like Red Riding Hood. The makeup is very simple but she looks good.

Malin Ackerman is here too. Her dress doesn’t do much for me. I’m sure Joan Rivers will tackle this in more detail. Watch out for this.

John Legend is chatting to Ryan Seacrest. He gushed to Ryan about being newly engaged. His wife-to-be is beautiful.

Alicia Keys looks amazing tonight. The hair, the makeup, the dress. She just looks gorgeous.

Rihanna looks beautiful. Very very very good. Yowza! Winner! She’s in Armani.

Flo Rida on hearing about Whitney Houston’s death: “I was about to go on stage. I definitely spoke to the fans. She inspired me and my condolences go out to her”. He told Ryan Seacrest that there is some good things coming.

It’s Grammy weekend!

It’s Grammy weekend!!! One of my favourite award ceremonies of the season. Music is a universal language, one that unites us. The 54th Annual Grammys hits our screens on Sunday evening/ Monday morning and the show will honour some of the biggest names in the business. Performances from Adele, The Foo Fighters, Chris Brown, Tony Bennett, Coldplay and Rihanna, Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson and many many more are expected, while LL Cool J will be on hosting duty.

The festivities getting going on E! Entertainment, channel 124 on DStv from 01:00 with Live From The Red Carpet. The team will be broadcasting from the Staples Centre in Los Angelas. Catch Ryan Seacrest and Giuliana Rancic as they chat to the biggest names of the red carpet and the all time favourite Glam Cam 360 will be catching all the talent on camera, with some commentary from Kelly Osbourne and others.
