Spacey back in SA for Jameson First Shot premiere this weekend

On Saturday I’ll be heading through to the Jameson First Shot red carpet premiere. This is the second premiere of its kind and I reckon it’s going to be lots of fun again. Last year, the campaign gave aspiring and upcoming filmmakers the opportunity to be mentored by Hollywood A-lister Kevin Spacey, his business partner Dana Brunetti thanks to the team at Jameson. It was sound a resounding success that the decided to do it once again and this year the team has enlisted the help of another Hollywood giant, Willem Dafoe.

South African filmmaker Hanneke Schutte was chosen as the winner this year. She flew over to the US, where she made her film, SAVING NORMAN (previously PING PONG WITH MR YONG) and we’ll be getting to see that film on Saturday evening. I’ll be on the red carpet taking pics and video. So follow me on Twitter: @JasonVonBerg, on Instagram or check back here for more interviews.

It promises to be a festive evening once again and big up to the team at Jameson for getting involved in such a lekker campaign.

Miguel ‘kneeds’ you

Firstly, let me just say I’m happy the person on the receiving end of Miguel’s knee is okay… That said, how funny is this? Miguel got a little excited and misjudged the distance between the stage platforms. As a result his long jumping ways fell short resulting in him kneeing some helpless fan at this year’s Billboard Music Awards. Thank goodness she’s okay.

Sidebar, Miguel should have a song “I Kneed you, LEG go” Ha.

The former Dogg now Lion said he was excited about heading out to SA again. “I’m honoured to bring this important message of peace and love to South Africa,” said Snoop Lion. “This is the motherland and a place of so much history and strife. John Legend drops “Who Do We Think We Are”

2013 you special musical beast you. We’ve heard new music from Beyonce, Justin’s just released his new album (review to follow this week) and now the ever cool John Legend has just dropped his new single. It’s called Who Do We Think We are. The single is taken off his forthcoming, fourth studio album “Love in the Future,” which is expected to drop on the 25th of June.

On the album Legend says, “I’m so excited to release this project.  I’ve thoroughly enjoyed making this album with a team of incredibly gifted producers and co-writers.” Says Legend “Every day we went to the studio with the goal to create something beautiful, to make the best album of my career. After all the writing and arranging and re-mixing and editing, it’s finally time for the world to hear it.”

You can hear the single above and it features Rick Ross (my worst but anyway). The video will drop in mid-April. Can’t wait to bring you more on this release too.

Check this out. Yesterday, Continental Tyre SA launched its new initiative called Our Continent. With this one they’re looking for is you and your adventure from South Africa and beyond. Full press release below:

Today sees the launch of Our Continent (www.ourcontinent.co.za) -  a crowdsourced initiative from Continental Tyre SA – a map of the best on and off-road destinations from around South Africa, and eventually, even the rest of Africa.

From city to Savannah, coastline to mountaintop, whatever your adventure, Continental Tyre wants you to share your journey via Twitpic and in turn share others’ journeys with you.

We take the rubber that separates us from the tar for granted but, regardless of our vehicle of choice – two wheels or four – it is the humble tyre that moves us from one destination to another.

Continental Tyre SA has also mapped out all of its South Africa stores on Our Continent, so if you are in need of a replacement or two, you will be able to find your nearest Conti Partner on your journey via your desktop or mobile device.

Pics: Ultimate Redd Door Experience party

Here’s a party I’m bummed I missed. On the 8th  the who’s who (barring me haha) headed through to the Maboneng Precinct in downtown Jozi for the Ultimate Redd Door Experience. Apparently guests were ushered in through a series of revolving ‘Redd Doors’, teasing their curiosity by giving them a “sensory experience”. They got to see different performers, animations and there was an art gallery come tasting room behind one of the other doors too. Sounds like quite the party. Behind the final ‘Redd Door’ were some of SA’s biggest named including Kwesta, House Hold Funk, DJ Zinhle as well as Naves and Sphe.

You can win some really cool prizes courtesy of the people at Redd’s. Check out their online properties for more details.
